Introduction to WMS - Warehouse Management Systems

SageData is based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Introduction

In today's competitive environment, understanding the crucial role of a Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a vital component in your organization.

Clients, both internal and external, are expecting timely delivery of the items and accurate information on the items' availability. They are looking for better service from warehouse personnel, both in performance and accuracy. Orders should be filled quickly. Clients expect the incidence of incorrect picks, or wrong quantities to be practically non-existent.
First generation electronic systems are no longer capable of meeting those needs.

A flexible and reliable WMS will empower your employees to do their jobs more productively and efficiently. By doing so, your employees will help move your business one step further ahead of your competition.
Lastly, your clients' satisfaction will increase as the number of complaints go down.

The problem

Many smaller warehouses, have not been able to justify the implementation of a full fledged system. Whether the warehouse is a small local distribution centre, or a 3PL (third party logistics) operation, the ROI has until now been difficult to justify.
But clients are becoming more demanding. There is an expectation that orders can be placed on the web, that picking and shipping operations can be followed in real time on the web, and that current inventory listings can be viewed via on-line reports.

The solution

SageData has been providing warehouse management solutions (WMS) for over 25 years. Our leading software platform, BassetPro, incorporates all of the latest WMS features. Our WMS is a wireless system that provides real-time updates and access to your valuable data. It is designed for small-to-medium sized warehouses to provide a wide array of functionality to support warehouse and distribution applications.
In a time of increased clients' expectations and a need for continuous inventory tracking, our solution optimizes productivity, efficiency, and accuracy of your warehouse.

Mobile units (handheld computers) are used to perform warehousing operations. The units can operate wirelessly, or where constraints (including security) make this inappropriate, can operate in batch mode. Items being processed are identified by barcodes, or, where appropriate, by RFID tags / labels.

BassetPro provides the standard functions of receiving, put away, picking and shipping, and then has the ability to generate appropriate paperwork - including shipping manifests and commercial invoices.
The inventory and other relevant reports can be viewed on-line using a PC or a mobile device.
Processing of paperwork, as required by Customs authorities, is simplified.
Our system makes the inventory auditing process fast and accurate.

In our experience, some clients need some modification of the WMS system to fully meet their specific operating requirements. This can be a great advantage in reducing training times, improving acceptance, and improving efficiency. SageData can work with you to determine and implement changes for your specific needs.

Our WMS is designed to operate as a stand-alone system, or in conjunction with the existing backend system. We provide a customized data interface connection between the systems.

BassetPro WMS is continuously evolving.
We are planning to introduce some artificial intelligence to work around some of the restrictions related to current RFID implementations.
