Major telecoms client installs BassetPro
Tuesday, July 30, 2002
Imagine you are testing a system.
A real big system. With lots of racks, and lots of cards. Let's say
3000 cards. The testing can take months. And the cards are moving, for
upgrades, repairs, inspections. So how do you know what was where, when
the testing was done? And how do you know that all the right cards are
in place before the system is shipped. The answer is SageData's BassetPro.
A major telecoms client recently installed a variant of BassetPro to
help track the circuit cards. Each card is identified with a UIC (Unique
Identification Code), as are the shelves and racks. An audit can be
performed simply by scanning the rack, and then the cards in the rack.
This variant of BassetPro is smart enough to figure out the slot locations
in each rack, and verify the correct location for each card. A transaction
record is kept of each scan. The audit is performed by pressing a single
key for each card or shelf.
The system can be operated in batch mode, for convenience and extreme
portability, or in RF mode, so that data is instantly available to all
users, on both hand held and desktop platforms.
Benefits include speed and accuracy of the audit, and provision of an
audit trail to confirm correct configuration.

Management for Fire Prevention Equipment
Monday, June 17, 2002
FiESta is SageData's System for management
of fire prevention equipment. At the request of a specific client, the
software was upgraded to meet organisation specific needs for maintenance
tracking. SageData provide standard systems, which satisfy the essential
needs of most applications, but can customise any application to meet
specific needs of a particular organisation.
This system uses pre printed labels bearing a UIC (Unique Identification
Code) to identify equipment and locations. Audits are performed by scanning
the location identifier, and the identifiers on all equipment at that
location. Missing or misplaced items are immediately identified.
FiESta is designed to provide a quick, easy and accurate means of collecting
data relating to fire prevention equipment. It helps ensure that the
right equipment is in the right place. It ensures that inspections are
carried out (no option to tick the boxes without physicall visiting
the equipment. By printing and signing a hard copy, a verifiable record
is kept to protect against future liability.
