Asset Financials

While it is usually operational front-line personnel who track assets and are concerned with their upkeep, it is no surprise that the Finance department takes a strong interest in tracking them. Assets have significant value. They figure as expenses when purchased; they depreciate over time; they are disposed of and move off the books when their life has ended.

Almost every organization uses some form of accounting software or integrated ERP system but very few of these off-the-shelf packages have front-end asset tracking. Integrating physical asset tracking over time with a financial system ensures that depreciation can be accurately calculated based on physical confirmation of an asset's whereabouts.

SageData was contacted by a federal government agency because their (the agency's) back-office financial system doesn't offer flexible depreciation methods. SageData's built-in Depreciation/Amortization Module satisfies the requirements of most organizations, but in this case there were several complications due to the nature of our client's business and secure operating environment.

In implementing a solution, SageData took the time to ensure that the very complex depreciation rules, practices and methodologies were codified in such a flexible way as to provide a generic value-add module to BassetPro. At the same time, advanced search features, highly flexible financial reporting, financial Executive Summaries and comprehensive Depreciation Management and Administration screens were developed.

The BassetPro Depreciation Module is now available as an add-on for existing BassetPro users. This has received rave reviews from our customers for its ease-of-use in a very complex domain. It can optionally be integrated into almost any back-office financial system such that physical asset tracking can now be tightly integrated with financial compliance.
